Did you know you could paint steel in cold weather? TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) has technology that allows us to paint tanks and structural steel down to 0° F. In December, TMI sandblasted and painted a 300,000-gallon tank for an agronomy location. TMI has the knowledge and expertise to complete jobs that seem unorthodox to some, but we have proven results behind us.

Procedure:

  1. TMI’s crew members completed a safety orientation onsite.
  2. TMI sandblasted to SSPC-SP6 to ensure all rust and mill scale was removed.
  3. TMI then applied a full coat of a rust-inhibiting epoxy primer by brush and roller.
  4. Finally, a urethane topcoat was applied for increased UV stability by brush and roller to ensure no overspray occurred.

Outcome:

At the conclusion of the project, the owner’s representative said, “Everything went very good; the superintendent onsite ensured we met all temperature requirements throughout the job. Very happy.” Cold weather can be detrimental to coatings, but TMI mitigates the risk by following the manufacturer’s requirements. Another successful job was completed, on time, safely, and on budget.
