A protein snack food manufacturer recently hired TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) to restore and recoat the floors in several areas at their distribution center in Iowa. The old coating was worn and slick, becoming a safety hazard.
Procedure
- The owner relocated all movable equipment, degreased, washed, and thoroughly rinsed the floors, and allowed them to dry before TMI began working.
- TMI vacuumed steel shot blasted and mechanically abraded the floors with diamond grinders to roughen them up and create an anchor pattern for better adhesion. The loose and delaminating flooring was then removed.
- All drains were covered and taped before coating. Drain and floor transitions were thoroughly sealed. TMI then filled joints and restored eroded areas to the surrounding plane using cementitious urethane materials.
- A primer and topcoat of Poly-Crete TF Plus were applied on the curb top and sides. The flooring was then covered with a Poly-Crete SLB system with a color-fast topcoat. TMI used more aggressive aggregate in the topcoat to create a slip-resistant walking surface.
Outcome
At the conclusion of the project, the plant manager said, “I am very happy with the floor; holding up great.” The maintenance manager of the snack food manufacturer was also pleased with the finished product and our ability to get in and out in under a week, completing over 7,500 sq. ft. of floor area. And now they have durable floors resistant to abrasions, scratches, and staining.
