The arena’s walls had many layers of paint and were cracked, rough, and chipping away. Not to mention years of abuse from youth hockey! Our field crew assessed the condition of the walls and have begun sandblasting the interior of the arena to remove 90% of the old coatings and create a suitable surface to paint. Once finished sandblasting, we will apply one acrylic base coat, followed by two coats of latex topcoat in a frost white finish.
Procedure:
- Protect items not to be painted with tape, poly, or foil to prevent overspray
- Abrasive blast walls and stairwells to remove loose, non-adhered paint
- Apply one full coat of Sherwin Williams Loxon Acrylic Block Filler by airless electric spray
- Apply two full coats of Sherwin Williams SuperPaint Interior Latex Satin by airless electric spray
Outcome:
The Acrylic Block Filler coat is designed to fill pores and small voids to create a smoother surface for the remaining coats. The two coats of Interior Latex Satin provides exceptional protection for the ice arena with added stain resistance. The final coating is a gloss finish which makes the surface aesthetically pleasing.
