Infrastructure maintenance painting reduces corrosion. TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) recently repainted a lift station, focusing on surface preparation and coating application of critical steel piping and enclosures.

Project Details:

Medium Lift Station Tunnel: 3’ diameter x 18’ high

Bottom Chamber: 8’ diameter x 8’ high, including walls, ceiling, and a 10” diameter piping

Scope of Work:

Prior to starting, TMI coordinated parking with the city as access to the underground tunnel was in a busy traffic corridor. Upon arrival, the crew covered and protected vulnerable equipment.

Manual and power tools were used to remove loose rust and coatings, but well-adhered coatings remained. Thorough cleaning and removal of contaminants were completed to ensure new coating adhesion.

Surfaces were primed using Sherwin-Williams Macropoxy 646, a two-component, high-solids, fast-drying polyamide epoxy mastic product reaching the desired dry film thickness (DFT) of 4 – 6 mils, followed by a full topcoat of Macropoxy 646, ensuring a durable and protective finish.

After completing the coating application, the site was cleaned up, ensuring equipment was adequately maintained and debris was disposed of in containers provided by the municipality.

Outcome:

TMI restored the medium lift station by effectively preparing the surface and selecting appropriate coatings for maximum corrosion protection to continue operating optimally. TMI Coatings. Safety. Quality. On time. In that order.
