Floor Topping Installation for a Meat Cutting and Packaging Facility

TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) protects concrete floors in the meat processing industry from the destructive results of freeze and thaw cycles, wet areas, and chemicals. We use systems that meet USDA, FDA, and CFIA standards while guarding against corrosion, impact, and thermal shock.

A bison meat cutting and packaging facility requested the installation of a protective floor topping system in their chillers, coolers, and shipping dock areas. TMI used cementitious urethane to cover floors in six rooms, which totaled over 5,700 square feet and 700 linear feet of 45° cants. Cementitious urethane, when exposed to steam, does not pit, crack, or craze. The Poly-Crete floor topping manufactured by Dur-A-Flex, is tough enough for industrial use, creates surfaces that are seamless, durable, and slip-resistant.

Procedure:

  • TMI prepared the floor by creating a rough surface and an anchor pattern for adhesion. Removed loose and delaminating material.
  • Restored eroded areas and filled joints to the surrounding plane by using an epoxy repair mix.
  • Installed a 45° cant to thoroughly seal wall/floor junctures and reduce the risk of seeping water.
  • Applied a Poly-Crete TF Primer, Poly-Crete WR, and a quarter-inch troweled down cementitious urethane Poly-Crete HF heavy-duty floor system.

Outcome:

The project was completed on budget and within a brief shutdown period. Mike Jacobson, VP of Operations stated, “Everything was great, quality of work, the safety of the crew, TMI performed as scheduled.”
