A manufacturer of safe and user-friendly biodegradable products from paper processing waste encountered a problem. One of their silos allowed moisture into the silo at the base of the silo, causing the dry paper product to soak up the unintended moisture. TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) applied a urethane elastomer coating to seal the silo/base juncture.
Procedure:
- The owner removed any build-up of paper-making waste from around the base before TMI did any work.
- To remove the loose coating and material, TMI pressure washed and hand/power tool cleaned surfaces.
- Around the base of the silo/base wall juncture, we mechanically abraded the circumference of the silo to create a profile for new coating adhesion.
- A urethane elastomer coating was then applied approximately 6” up the wall and out onto the concrete surface to ensure a waterproof seal.
Outcome:
The plant manager of the paper processing company was impressed with the entire process and stated, “The finished product looks very good.” Furthermore, they said they would look at other tanks to waterproof/seal at a later date.
