Silo Coating Removal in Texas

Food safety is a priority for all food manufacturers. A PepsiCo company called TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) to assist with the peeling and flaking paint issues in their corn meal silos because the linings had failed. TMI was to complete paint removal so they could get back up and running with as little downtime as possible. Although over 1000 miles from our corporate office in St. Paul, MN, within ten days of receiving the contract, TMI was on-site to start the project.

Scope of work:

  1. Preparation by owner:
    1. Silo interior was cleaned by the owner to remove residual product
    2. Disconnected the lower cone outlet apparatus/flanges plus opening all manways for TMI to setup ventilation and dust control
  2. Lockout/tagout procedure:
    1. Implementation of a comprehensive lockout/tagout procedure by TMI to ensure the safety of TMI personnel during silo entry
  3. Sandblasting protocol:
    1. TMI removed all of the existing paint coatings
    2. Owner conducted a thorough review post-blasting for approval
    3. TMI collected and disposed of all the used abrasive
  4. Compressed air cleaning:
    1. TMI used compressed air to clean all surfaces further and eliminate loose dust/abrasive particles
  5. Cleanup and documentation:
    1. Comprehensive cleanup of the job site, ensuring no residual materials remained
    2. Obtain signed work order as project completion documentation

The coating removal was successful. TMI was able to keep the owner’s downtime minimal, resulting in numerous other silo-coating removal projects throughout the United States for the same food manufacturer.
