In 2023, TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) was contracted by Clark Community Oil to paint numerous fuel oil tanks at two South Dakota facilities.  Several of the oil tanks had grime and mildew built up due to years of fuel spills, whereas the other tanks had peeling paint and corrosion present. TMI’s expertise came into action to prolong the life of these tanks and give them a facelift.

Procedure:

  1. TMI mobilized to the site with its pressure-washing rig because Clark Community Oil didn’t have water at the site. We utilized 4,000-psi pressure washers with an industrial strength degreaser to ensure all the built-up grime and mildew were removed.
  2. TMI also removed the existing labeling (stickers) and all peeling paint to ensure we started with a sound substrate.
  3. A two-component, high-build, polyamide-cured epoxy coating was then applied.
  4. Finally, we applied a high gloss aliphatic urethane which has outstanding weather resistance and good gloss and color retention. All paint was brushed and roller applied to minimize overspray risk.

Outcome:

At the conclusion of the project, the fuel manager was extremely happy we provided them with a long-lasting solution that will protect those assets for many years to come. TMI has the experience, knowledge, and ability to protect your assets from corrosion and peeling paint. TMI Coatings. Safety. Quality. On time. In that order.
