Taking care of your equipment and performing preventative maintenance are the best ways to prolong the life of your tanks.  That’s why Dilling Group in Lafayette, IN, called TMI Coatings, Inc (TMI).

Dilling Group had two condensate tanks for their boilers, which gave them trouble year after year.  Without these tanks, they would not be able to run the boilers.  TMI Coatings was contracted to come in and coat the bottom 3’ of the tank and the floor.  Once the tank was sandblasted, corrosion and pitting were found throughout the entire area.  TMI met with the customer, found a product conducive to the lining we were using, addressed the pitting and corrosion, and was still able to give the customer the final product they needed.

Procedure:

TMI’s crew completed confined space entry procedures per OSHA before working.

We sandblasted the tank floor and the bottom 3’ walls and confirmed that no sharp edges were present.

A material was applied to fill in corrosion and pitting to the tank bottom.

A lining suitable for condensate tanks up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit was applied.

Force-cured lining.  Direct-fire heaters with ducting were used to heat the coating to 225 degrees for four hours.  Provided full-time hole watch for fire and personnel safety.

Outcome:

The Dilling Group depended on TMI to use its knowledge and experience to help solve its problem.  When the pitting was found, TMI worked with the customer to devise a solution that worked promptly.  TMI’s field crew meticulously covered the affected areas of the tank and applied the lining.
