Lallemand products, a producer of yeasts and bacteria with locations in Milwaukee, WI; Wahpeton, ND; Memphis, TN; and several other locations, hired TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) to complete tank repairs on three of their fermenter tanks. Due to its many benefits, we chose a liquid applied urethane coating that cures quickly to form a durable seal. This waterproof and corrosion protecting urethane elastomer expands and contracts during temperature changes and provides an abrasion and chemical-resistant barrier.
Each project is unique. TMI Coatings chooses products that are specifically designed for each job. Our trained sales people meet with you to understand what issues you’re experiencing. Our engineering team helps specify the correct products to solve your issues. Our Superintendents and applicators are responsible for your project from start to finish on each and every job we do.
Procedure:
- Mechanically abraded the stainless-steel fermenter tank bases and wiped area clean with solvent to remove dirt, dust and other contaminants.
- Applied bonding agent on the tank’s surface followed by Macropoxy, a bonding primer that extended onto the concrete pad.
- Applied urethane elastomer coating on the stainless-steel shell/concrete foundation juncture; then used scrim cloth and a trowel-grade application to seal penetrations, seams and bridge gaps; lastly, applied a second coat of urethane elastomer coating.
Outcome:
Gap at tank shell/foundation juncture was sealed to provide a waterproof barrier eliminating mold and mildew growth and corrosion. With the tank repairs now complete, the owner now has a long-lasting system in place for many years to come.
