Hubbard Feeds Concrete Silo Roof Coating

An animal feed facility requested TMI Coatings coat their concrete silo roofs.  TMI removed existing coating and began surface preparation.  While preparing the surface, TMI’s Superintendent noticed that there were large eroded, punky, soft concrete areas on the silo roof in need of repair.  TMI’s Superintendent consulted with the owner and salesperson to remedy the areas by using cementitious non-sagging mortar to restore to the surrounding plane.  TMI used a special cementitious mortar that dried quickly and can be recoated in a timely manner.  TMI sealed around all penetrations, in some areas embedding scrim cloth or mat reinforcement into liquid urethane for a thorough seal around penetrations.  TMI then applied primer and an asphalt-based urethane elastomer roofing system to the entire roof.  Two coats of asphalt-based urethane elastomer were applied in a heavy-duty, thick-film manner.  The system has a high elongation factor for improved and long-term flexibility in changing temperatures as found in the Midwest.  Finally, TMI incorporated aggregate into the roof coating for slip resistance.  The owner was very happy with TMI’s Superintendent and crew and the final result of the roofing system.
