Silo Restoration and Coating Services in Fargo, North Dakota

TMI Coatings, Inc. (TMI) is a painting and restoration contractor that has successfully completed numerous silo restoration and coating projects.  In areas where there is damaged or spalling concrete, we sound out to remove any loose or punky concrete.  If there is any exposed rebar, we prepare the surface and prime using a metal primer to prevent further corrosion.  TMI then applies a polymer-modified cementitious mortar to restore the surface to the surrounding plane.  The mortar used provides further corrosion protection to prevent future expansion of the re-bar, thus reducing the likelihood of spalling.  A coating is applied over repaired areas to protect against future moisture penetration and further seal the repaired areas.  This process has been used with great success on concrete silos across the Midwest.

Benefits of Silo Restoration and Coating

Our North Dakota silo restoration services offer many unique benefits exclusive to TMI’s services, such as:

  • The mortar used is non-sagging and is suitable for vertical applications.
  • The polymer modification of the mortar improves adhesion and provides increased freeze/thaw stability.
  • The mortar has an integral corrosion inhibitor to prevent further corrosion of exposed rebar, which prevents further metal expansion and eliminates the issue of spalling concrete.
  • The topcoat used resists wind-driven rain and helps to prevent water penetration into the substrate.

North Dakota Silo Restoration Services

In 2021, TMI completed a silo restoration and coating project for Alton Grain in Hillsboro, ND. The roof of the main silo house received a new waterproof, non-slip coating. Elastomeric waterproof coatings have high elongation for improved and long-term flexibility in changing temperatures.

TMI has completed silo restoration and coating projects for Cargill, ADM, CHS, ACS, and many other cooperatives and manufacturers throughout the United States.  TMI has been successfully completing silo restoration projects for over 30 years.
