Vacuum Tank Restoration

TMI Coatings completed restoration of 2 vacuum tanks for a styrofoam manufacturer. Access was provided into each tank through a 16” diameter manway to enter 5’ diameter by 4’ high chambers. TMI prepared surfaces for steel repairs due to corrosion of the tanks with diamond grinders with vacuum attachments and needle guns. After completion of repairs, TMI further prepared all surfaces to bare steel creating an acceptable surface profile for application of a urethane elastomer coating to provide corrosion protection against acids and alkalies and abrasion resistance. Two coats urethane elastomer high performance coating was applied.

The coating can be applied over some existing coatings and linings but for longevity a bare substrate is recommended.

Time was of the essence to complete repairs and coating application on a tight schedule. Even with unforeseen additional repairs, TMI was able to complete the project within a satisfactory duration to meet the owner’s shutdown schedule. The owner was pleased to have the tanks back up and running for production and stated the project “went good” and they are “not expecting any problems.”
